Archive Entry #97: April 17, 1997

Posted on June 9, 2015.

On a few occasions over the three decades of my newsletter column, I have chosen not to state plainly the intentions the piece. Entry #86, for example, was a 1992 commentary on the infamous Rodney King beating, but left it to readers to find that connection.

Today’s entry is another example of a column whose purpose not stated, but, I hope, is clear. Have a go at discerning the subject, then find out in the introduction to the next Archive entry whether you got it right.
