Archive Entry #85: April 5, 1989

Posted on April 28, 2015.

A region-sponsored youth event back in 1989 prompted today’s Archive entry.

When I read these words today I still react with empathy for the boy described. I wonder how his form of shyness and reservation has has evolved over the years, and where life has taken him.

We don’t think much about the in-and-out people of our lives, do we - the people we meet only briefly, and sometimes not memorably.

There are lots of lives we have touched and who have touched us. Here’s one life that once touched me.

COMING NEXT: For the third of five consecutive entries that bring an end to their years’ representation in the Archive I bring you what for me has always been my most memorable column: a May 1992 response to the verdicts in the trial of the officers involved in the beating of Rodney King, verdicts that sparked terrible riots in Los Angeles. Particularly in these days of tensions between communities and their police departments, the column carries and eerie irony that I hope you will engage. Find it HERE.
