Archive Entry #63: November 4, 1999

Posted on February 10, 2015.

If there are such things as stereotypes regarding pastors’ newsletter columns, I suppose that one of them is that pastors write about churchy things: the ministry of the congregation, the faith of the faithful, the glory of God, etc. Early in my years as a column writer I decided to abandon that agenda, thinking it to restricted – aka, boring! – for my or my readers’ tastes.

Among the arenas of life by which I broadened my columns sweep was social commentary; an example of that interest awaits you in today’s Archive entry. While the specific website referenced in this column is today under VERY different management (!) the central issue raised here is timeless.

COMING NEXT: The second of three consecutive year-debuting entries. August 2003 brings another social commentary, this one on the intersection of church state. (SPOILER ALERT: I don’t believe that intersection should get much traffic!) Find it HERE!
