Archive Entry #59: October 3, 1996
Posted on January 27, 2015.
I preached my first sermon at FCCEM in July 1985. I preached the 500th sermon of my tenure here in September 1996. I’ll preach number 1,500 sometime later this year or early next. Time...and words...fly.
This column is not well written, but it does reflect my penchant for milestones – even back when the milestones weren’t as worthy of attention as are the modern ones – as well as my ongoing reflections about the direction and mission of what I say during Sunday worship.
I think I’m a better preacher now than I was when today’s entry was written. I pray I am still inviting people to those cool waters of God’s fountain.
COMING NEXT: From a time of great conflict in our denomination comes an October 1991 column about a controversial and ultimately withdrawn nomination of a person to head our denomination. The source of the conflict probably made sense then; I think you will agree it wouldn’t make as much as sense today. Find it HERE.
