Archive Entry #53: February 3, 2000

Posted on January 6, 2015.

Today’s entry is the fulcrum point of the archive: 52 entries preceded this one; 52 entries will succeed it.

Of all things for such a central player to focus on: the church season of Epiphany! For the 21 years I preached the common lectionary (a three year cycle of Sunday Bible readings that attempts to cover prominent themes from both Testaments), the official seasons of the church year mattered to me; they don’t much anymore, other than the prominent ones of Advent (preparing for Christmas) and Lent (preparing for Easter). Ironically, however, I may create my next sermon series around an Epiphany theme: Who is Jesus?

Don’t know what Epiphany is? This entry will tell you, along with how that should affect the way your live.

And one final note: With this entry we close out the year 2000 in the archive; the year becomes the third one from which no further archive entries will be coming (the others are 2005 and 2008). I find it odd that the first three closeout years are from the first decade of this century. Doesn’t mean anything; but it is odd.

COMING NEXT: From January 1996, a reminder that resolving to act is meaningless unless we actually...act. That, and for the second consecutive archive entry we will close out a calendar year, meaning there will then be four years that will add no further entries to the archive. Find it HERE.
