Archive Entry #43: January 10, 1991

Posted on December 2, 2014.

No archive of my past newsletter columns would be complete without today’s entry.

In my early years here I was an even grumpier critic of our culture’s plastic and commercial Christmas season than I am today. The following column, in which I went after greeting cards and the lyrics of a then-popular Bette Midler song, generated lots of similarly grumpy feedback – so much that I felt compelled to backtrack a bit in our next issue!

So from nearly 24 years ago, while still in the first decade of my ministry, here is how I brashly – and not so elegantly – got myself in trouble.
